Zack Greinke rumors: Rangers zeroing in; Angels out?

The Texas Rangers are "zeroing in" on free agent Zack Greinke.

The Texas Rangers are "zeroing in" on free agent Zack Greinke, according to Jayson Stark of ESPN, while the Los Angeles Angels are prepared to move on from the right-hander, reports Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times:

If the Rangers do sign Greinke, they would then enter the trade market to acquire a bat rather than re-sign free agent slugger Josh Hamilton and make a deal for an arm, according to Stark.

Meanwhile, Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto has told reporters that his team is "prepared to move on" from Greinke. There were reports that the estimated $160 million contract the right-hander could receive this winter isn’t in Los Angeles’ price range.

While the Los Angeles Dodgers were reportedly the favorite to sign Greinke when the offseason began, and prepared to hand him his best offer, the Rangers are now in the thick of the sweepstakes. There have been reports that Greinke’s wife, a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, may want the right-hander to sign with Texas.
