Dodgers pulling out of Greinke race?

The Los Angeles Dodgers, who have been closely linked to free-agent Zack Greinke this offseason are apparently considering pulling out of the Zack Greinke race, according to a tweet from Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

The Dodgers, whose owners bathe in equal parts water and money, have been long considered in the lead for the star pitcher.

The Texas Rangers may have something to do with the Dodgers' apparent change of heart as Jayson Stark of ESPN tweeted earlier today that Rangers may be, "...zeroing in" on the 29 year-old, former Cy Young award winner.

Greinke's new contract has been projected to eclipse the C.C. Sabathia contract to become the largest-ever deal signed by a pitcher. Greinke certainly is an outstanding talent worthy of commanding that type of salary.

The Yankees one-year, fifteen million dollar deal with Hiroki Kuroda, and the speculated asking price for free agent pitchers such as Anibal Sanchez, Edwin Jackson, and Kyle Lohse, have illustrated that the cost of quality starting pitching will be quite dear in 2013.

If the Rangers do indeed sign Greinke, it will be interesting how many years, and how much money they are willing to commit to him.
