NL West Notes: Greinke, McCarthy, Upton, Sanchez

Signings / Acquisitions

• The Dodgers have signed free agent starter Zack Greinke to a six year/$147M contract. It is the largest deal ever for a right-handed pitcher and second largest contract for any pitcher behind CC Sabathia’s seven year $170M deal.
• The Diamondbacks signed starter Brandon McCarthy to a two years/$15M deal.
• The Padres received pitcher Wilfredo Boscan from the Rangers to complete the Cory Burns trade.

Ongoing Rumors

• The Diamondbacks are still hearing offers for Justin Upton and the Rangers, who missed out on Greinke are the top suitors for the right fielder.
• In connection with a possible four-team blockbuster trade, the Diamondbacks are working to bring Asdrubal Cabrera to Arizona as part of a Justin Upton deal.
• The Dodgers might not be done spending money yet. They could still pursue Anibal Sanchez despite signing Greinke.
• The Rockies have gotten calls on Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez, but they are not interested in trading either player.
• The Padres are shopping Jesus Guzman and bullpen arms right now as they look to build for the future.
• The Dodgers have gotten a number of calls about shortstop Dee Gordon, with the Braves, Indians, Mariners and Phillies all calling on him, but they are telling teams they are not willing to move him at this point.
