The San Francisco Giants announced that they've invited right-handed pitcher Ramon Ortiz to spring training, which implies they've signed him to a minor league deal.
Ortiz, 39 next month, enters his 12th season as a pro with stints on seven different teams (the Giants will be the 8th). He spent the most time with the Angels, spending 6 seasons between 1999-2004. He has a career 4.93 ERA, averaging 5.6 strikeouts to 3.1 walks per game. If you're looking at value, Ortiz won't help you unless he's paying you -- he's been in negative WAR territory six of the last eight years.
