Yesterday, we learned that the New York Yankees and Free Agent Outfielder Raul Ibanez extensively and were waiting for the AJ Burnett trade to be made official. This morning, Joel Sherman of the New York Post as well as ESPN's Buster Olney are reporting that the deal is in place for a $1.1 million plus incentives agreement pending an Ibanez physical.
With Ibanez on board, the Yankees are still expected to push for Eric Chavez who could platoon as a LH DH as well along with playing backup to both 3B and 1B as he did last season.
Ibanez, who ranked 5th among this off-seasons free agent class in RBI over the past 3 seasons, joins a potent off-season signing class for the Yankees which also includes Dewayne Wise (minor league deal), Russell Branyan (minor league deal) and re-signing of Andruw Jones who will likely share the DH role with Ibanez. Ibanez who is a career .280/.372/.471 hitter should fit in nicely with a short porch in Yankee Stadium.
