The New York Yankees are in talks with Eric Chavez, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Heyman suggests it would be a major-league deal if completed.
Chavez, 34, enters his 15th season, all but the last of which were spent with the Oakland Athletics. He's a career .267 / .342 / .474 hitter, but those numbers have been coming down in conjunction with limited playing time. Chavez hasn't played in more than 90 games in a season since 2007, and according to Andrew Marchand, was considering retirement before talks began with the Yankees:
