Latest On San Francisco Giants, Matt Cain Extension Talks

According to Liz Mullen of the Sports Business Journal, Matt Cain's agents Landon Williams and Rick Landrum are now with CAA Baseball Co-Head Jeff Berry in the negotiation room with the Giants about a long-term extension for their client. To provide some perspective on the news, Andrew Baggarly of CSN Bay Area had this to say:

"Perspective on Cain: He has same agents, but they switched agencies. Now partnered with (Buster) Posey's guy, Berry, who is assisting in negotiations."

Matt Cain is in the final year of a three-year, $27.25 million contract with the San Francisco Giants but the two sides are working on ensuring Cain doesn't hit the open market at season's end. While the Giants know Cain will get his payday from another team if they don't lock him up, they have to make sure there's enough money available for Tim Lincecum after extending Cain.
