Tim McMahon from ESPN Dallas is reporting that the Texas Rangers will be tabling their contract extension talks with outfielder Josh Hamilton. This comes on the heels of his second relapse with alcohol in the past three years. As GM Jon Daniels said, this is a real life story, and not a baseball story, and thus they decided to put contract talks on the back burner. Quote from Hamilton:
"It would be nice if it was talking about a contract, but we'll put that on the back burner for a while."
He had a press conference a couple of hours ago to address the news that broke last night. Daniels and Hamilton's agent Michael Moore came to the agreement to table the talks earlier today. Hamilton had been hoping to have an extension by the end of spring training.
As it has been said before, this is a real life story and not a baseball story, but it should be interesting to see how the Rangers handle this in the upcoming months.
