Orioles Weekend Update: Manny, Larish, Neshek, VandenHurk

With just a couple weeks left before pitchers and catchers report, the Baltimore Orioles looked to finalize their roster over the past week. They signed several to minor league deals, signed Jeff Larish, released Rick VandenHurk, and might actually be contemplating a Manny Ramirez signing.

  The Baltimore Orioles have signed Armando Galarraga, Pat Neshek, Ronny Paulino, and Korean lefty Seong-Min Kim all to minor league deals, according to the team (via Dan Connolly and Britt Ghiroli).

  Corner infielder Jeff Larish announced on his Facebook page (via Jane Lee of MLB.com) that he has signed with the Baltimore Orioles. It's a minor league deal with no invite to major league spring training, according to Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports.

• Manny Ramirez To Pick Between Orioles, A's, Blue Jays - MLB Daily Dish
  Free agent designated hitter Manny Ramirez wants to make a comeback, and according to Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes, he wants to do so for either the Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics, or Toronto Blue Jays.
• Baltimore Orioles Release Rick VandenHurk - MLB Daily Dish
  After clearing waivers Friday, the Baltimore Orioles have released right-handed pitcher Rick VandenHurk, reports Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun. The club designated VandenHurk ten days ago in order to make room for recently signed free agent Wilson Betemit on the 40-man roster.

Too early for early-season projections? Maybe not. At this point in the season, the Orioles roster is pretty much set and that makes it a great time to sit down and start figuring out who will factor in where come Opening Day.

I’m shooting to look at each position in depth, either on the blog or Orioles.com, to help preview things and get the conversation ball rolling. Executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette has said several times this winter that he thinks the team can be over .500 this year.

Is that realistic? What has to happen to make that feasible? A lot of things would have to go right for the Orioles, that’s for sure.
