NL Central Weekend Update: Marcum, Patterson, Greinke, Cruz, McClellan

With the Cubs update out of the way, let's look at what the rest of the NL Central got done this week:

Brewers:

• Milwaukee Brewers and Shaun Marcum Avoid Arbitration - MLB Daily Dish
  Marcum had been looking for $8.7M and the Brewers offered $6.7M in a case that would have headed for arbitration if they had not come to an agreement. Marcum is set to become a free agent after this season in a strong starting pitcher class.
• Milwaukee Brewers Sign Corey Patterson to Minor League Deal - MLB Daily Dish
  Patterson, 32, enters his 13th season as a pro and has compiled a career line of . 252 / .290 / .400. He spent his first six seasons with the Chicago Cubs, before bouncing around the Baltimore Orioles, Cincinnati Reds, Washington Nationals, Toronto Blue Jays, and most recently the St. Louis Cardinals.

  Greinke is currently without an agent, but that does not mean that he will not negotiate with the Brewers. He said that he is open to talking with the Brewers about it, but it does not mean he will serve as his own agency and he is open to finding a new one. He left CAA last spring.

Pirates:

• Pittsburgh Pirates Sign Juan Cruz To Minor League Deal - MLB Daily Dish
  The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed relief pitcher Juan Cruz to a minor league contact with an invitation to Spring Training, as the team announced on Wednesday. Cruz has bounced around with numerous teams since hitting the majors as an elite, flame-throwing pitching prospect back in 2001.
• Pittsburgh Pirates To Sign Brian Tallet - MLB Daily Dish
  Tallet, 34, split the 2011 season between the Toronto Blue Jays and St. Louis Cardinals. In last year's deal centered around Colby Rasmus and Edwin Jackson, Tallet was a throw-in sent from St. Louis to Toronto in order to finish off the deal. Over 19 appearances last season, he posted a 9.45 ERA in 13 innings.
