Maureen Mullen from Comcast Sports Net New England is reporting that the Boston Red Sox have sent down right handed pitcher Scott Atchison to Triple A Pawtucket.
The Red Sox had designated Atchison for assignment late in January, and he had cleared waivers, allowing them to then send him the Triple A. Atchison has played in Boston for the past two seasons, being shipped up and down from Pawtucket to Boston. He has been a useful long relief man if needed, and has been the perfect player to send up and down with his options left.
He pitched 30 innings with Boston last season and had over 60 innings in Pawtucket. He had a very solid 3.26 earned run average in the majors and an even better 2.64 ERA in Triple A. He could make the Red Sox out of Spring Training, but if not he should be up from Pawtucket at some point.
