UPDATE: Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle has noted several times that the A's could have interest in Callaspo.
According to Danny Knobler of CBS Sports, there's some speculation out of Spring Training that the Oakland Athletics could pursue Angels third baseman Alberto Callaspo, given their uncertainty at the position. A few weeks ago, it was reported that Scott Sizemore -- who was set to be the A's third baseman this season -- will be out for the year with a torn ACL.
As Knobler notes, with Mark Trumbo taking over at third base for the Angels, Callaspo has been pushed out of an everyday role, and would thus presumably be available via trade. Callaspo, 28, is owed $3.15M in 2012, and is under team control for one last year in 2013 (his final season of arbitration eligibility). He posted a 111 OPS+ in 536 PAs with Los Angeles in 2011.
