The Indians announced that oft-injured Grady Sizemore underwent micro discectomy surgery on his back Thursday morning in Miami and could be out through at least July. Paul Hoynes reports:
Starting in 2009, Sizemore, 29, has played an average of only 70 games per season and undergone six surgeries -- one on his left elbow, two sports hernia surgeries, surgeries on his left and right knee and Thursday's back surgery. "I feel bad for the guy," said manager Manny Acta. "Everyone knows we're a better team with him. He just hasn't caught a lot of breaks over the last couple of years."
- Jordan Bastian of MLB.com tweets: "Antonetti said he likes the Tribe's in-house OF options, but noted that his scouts will be examining other camps for possible alternatives."
- Bastian lists out the internal options to replace Sizemore in the interim: Duncan, Cunningham, Canzler, LaPorta, Neal, Huffmann, Spilborghs, Carrera, Lewis, Pie, Weglarz, and Crowe.
- Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that Indians OF Aaron Cunningham was a no-show with a sore left-hand on Weds and Thurs this week, but should be back on Saturday.
- Russ Canzler, acquired by the Indians from the Rays in January, drove in five runs with a grand slam and a single in a five-inning intra-squad game Thursday.
