The Yankees have claimed catcher Craig Tatum off of waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks, reports Britt Ghiroli of MLB.com.
Tatum, 29, has only 100 games of experience at the big league level, breaking in with the Reds in 2009 and serving as the Orioles' back-up catcher the last two seasons.
In his three part-time seasons Tatum has hit an uninspiring .223/.291/.264 and has only thrown out 21% of would-be base stealers.
The Yankees are the third team in the last five months to claim the catcher off of waivers, following the Astros in October and the Diamondbacks in January.
The acquisition of Tatum sets the Yankees roster at 40 and gives them four catchers on their active roster.
The 6' 1" Tatum was a third-round pick by the Cincinatti Reds in the 2004 draft.
