Spring Training is full of drama at Fort Myers, with the power struggle between Bobby Valentine and Ben Charington resulting in Jose Iglesias to Pawtucket. For now, some baseball notes.'

  • Rob Bradford from WEEI.com via Twitter reports that Red Sox pitcher Vincente Padilla would rather pitch in the Boston bullpen than pursue a starting opportunity on another club.
  • Gordan Edes from ESPN Boston reports that right handed pitcher Chris Carpenter will have surgery on his pitching elbow to remove a bone spur. The Red Sox acquired Carpenter from the Chicago Cubs for Theo Epstein.
  • Bradford also writes on WEEI.com that giving short stop Mike Aviles a chance to start the season is not such a bad idea, despite the protests.
  • Kirk Minihane, also from WEEI writes about the free agent mistakes that have been made by former Red Sox GM Theo Epstein, and how they still affect the team today.
