The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have agreed to a four-year contract extension with left fielder Alex Gordon.
While the specific monetary details are not yet available, the 28-year-old will remain with the Royals at least through the 2015 season, and the contract includes a player option for 2016.
After four seasons of teetering between Triple-A and the big league squad and changing positions from third base to the outfield, Gordon finally broke through in a big way last season.
The 6' 2" left fielder hit .303/.376/.502 with 45 doubles and 23 home runs in 2011, after hitting just .244/.328/.405 in his first four big league seasons.
The contract keeps Gordon in a Royals uniform through his final two years of arbitration and at least his first two seasons of free agency (2014 & 2015).
