According to Michael Sanserino of the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, the Pittsburgh Pirates have agreed to a contract extension with star outfielder Andrew McCutchen. The deal will reportedly pay him $51.5M over six years, with a club option worth $14.75M for a seventh year.
McCutchen, 25, is in his final season before arbitration eligibility. 2013 to 2015 will cover his arbitration eligible seasons, with 2016 being his first year of free agency. In 2011, he earned his first all-star nod, posting a 127 OPS+ and stealing 23 bases across 158 games.
The official announcement from the Pittsburgh Pirates, Sanserino reports, will come Tuesday. The contract extension is currently pending a physical.
