Baseball America's Matt Eddy is reporting several moves via twitter:
- The San Diego Padres have signed right-handed pitcher Dennis Tankersley. He last pitched in Triple-A in 2008.
- The Arizona Diamondbacks have signed 1B Randy Ruiz after a two-year stint in Japan.
- Well hey, the D-backs have signed Mike Jacobs, the free-swinging, accidentally PED'ing hitter. Eddy reports he'll likely platoon in Triple-A Reno after sitting out the required 50 games.
- The Texas Rangers sign right-handed pitcher John Meloan. Eddy notes that Meloan was the third piece of the Casey Blake-Carlos Santana trade from 2008.
- The Toronto Blue Jays have signed right-handed reliever Fernando Hernandez, most recently in the Atlantic League and what Eddy describes as a gaudy 8.7 K/9 in a 231 inning AA career.
- The Chicago Cubs have released right-handed pitcher Kyle Smit. Eddy notes that Smit was included with Blake DeWitt and Brett Wallach in the 2010 trade of Ted Lilly.
