The Pittsburgh Pirates were a surprise last season, do they look to jump into contention in 2012? Here are some notes on the Andrew McCutchen extension, and what everybody is saying about the center fielder.
- Jayson Stark from ESPN talked to Pittsburgh Pirates GM Neal Huntington, who said that fans will not have to worry about the Bucs trading Andrew McCutchen for prospects, as "we are now beyond the talent accumulating phase"
- Jon Heyman from CBS Sports says that he doesn't view McCutchen as a player worth $51.5 million, but the Pirates think he will emerge as that player.
- Rob Biertempfel from the Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports that McCutchen turned down two other extension offers from the Pirates before agreeing to terms.
- Micheal Sanserino from the Pittsburgh Post Gazette says that McCutchen is the perfect fit with the Pirates long term, for his all star ability in the field to his charactor off of it.
