The Minnesota Twins have designated third baseman Sean Burroughs for assignment in order to clear room on their 40-man roster, the team announced today. In a corresponding move, the team called up catcher Drew Butera, who will take Burroughs' spot on the 40-man.
Burroughs, 31, appeared in 10 games with the Twins this season, though he only started three of those games. He collected a couple hits and drew one walk in 17 at-bats, for an overall slash line of .118/.167/.176.
Butera, 28, has a .738 OPS in 15 games with Triple-A Rochester thus far. He spent considerable time with the Twins last season, though failed to impress, hitting .167/.210/.239 over 93 games.
