Released by the San Diego Padres on Thursday, it didn't take 2B Orlando Hudson long to find another job. According to MLB.com's Peter Gammons, Hudson will sign with the Chicago White Sox.
Hudson put up just a .211/.260/.317 slash line with five triples in 131 PA's with the Padres prior to his release. I didn't have the White Sox as a possible destination for Hudson in my "Who Might Be Interested In Orlando Hudson?" post, but the Hudson makes sense for the White Sox.
White Sox second basemen are hitting just .197/.268/.310 on the season and the clock as officially started ticking on Gordon Beckham's career in Chicago. Beckham really hasn't panned out like the White Sox thought he would so far and I don't think the White Sox are going to sign Hudson to sit on the bench.
Perhaps this move will push Beckham to finally reach his full potential in Chicago.
