Chicago White Sox To Sign Keon Barnum

The Chicago White Sox selected Keon Barnum of Florida's King High School with the forty-eight draft pick in this year's MLB draft, and according to Laura Keeley of the Tampa Bay Times, Barnum is close to signing a deal and forgoing his scholarship to Miami University.

"Barnum, who stands 6-foot-5, 225 pounds, is flying to Arizona to take a physical Monday. If he passes, he will officially sign with the White Sox and forgo his scholarship to Miami. In his senior year, he hit .417 with hit five home runs, five doubles and two triples to go along with 26 walks, 27 runs scored and 15 RBIs."

While details of the deal haven't been disclosed, it's safe to the assume the conservative White Sox won't be paying more than MLB's recommended slot signing bonus of $1,052,500.

MLB.com evaluated Barnum as a "big, strong physical specimen," that "can generate a lot of bat speed and has the ability to drive the ball to all parts of the ballpark," but ESPN's Keith Law was blunt saying he "had no business going on Day 1..."
