The New York Mets have agreed to a deal with supplemental first-round draft pick Kevin Plawecki, reports Jim Callis of Baseball America. Plawecki signed for a $1.4 million signing bonus, which is just below MLB's recommend slot signing bonus for the 35th overall draft pick at $1,467,400.
Callis had this to say about the Purdue catcher: "The offensive-minded catcher led Purdue to its first Big Ten Conference regular-season title in 103 years and first-ever conference tournament championship this spring. He makes consistent line-drive contact, has some power potential and gets the job done defensively."
The Mets drafted Kevin Plawecki with a compensation pick the team earned when free agent Jose Reyes signed a long-term deal with the Miami Marlins. With this signing, the Mets have inked both their first-round draft picks, the other being Gavin Cecchini (who signed a few days back).
