Detroit Tigers right-hander Doug Fister will come off their 15-day disabled list Saturday and start against the Colorado Rockies, reports Tom Gage of The Detroit News. Fister has been on the DL since May 29 because of a lingering injury to his left side.
The rib strain has limited Fister to only six starts this season. The 28-year-old made his season debut for the Tigers on April 7 but hit the DL the next day after initially injuring his side.
Fister rejoined the Tigers a month later, but reinjured his side during a May 28 contest against the Boston Red Sox and returned to the DL a day later.
Over his six starts this season, Fister has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 3.15 and 1.311 with 6.3 SO/9 and 2.1 BB/9.
While the Tigers are gaining Fister this weekend, they lost a valuable member of their rotation this morning. Detroit announced that left-hander Drew Smyly would hit the DL due to a severe blister.
