The Baltimore Orioles placed outfielder Endy Chavez on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring, reports Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com. To replace Chavez on their roster, the Orioles recalled Steve Tolleson from Triple-A.

Chavez sustained his injury while running to first base during the Orioles series opener against the Pittsburgh Pirates Tuesday night. It marks the outfielder’s second stint on the DL as Chavez missed time earlier in the year due to a strained oblique.

Over his 32 games with the Orioles, Chavez had hit at a clip of .162/.193/.210 with three extra-base hits and four RBIs. Despite his uninspiring numbers, Chavez was recently acting as the Orioles leadoff hitter with Brian Roberts and Nolan Reimold on the DL.

Tolleson was optioned to Triple-A earlier in the week when the Orioles activated Roberts. The 28-year-old was back with the club yesterday and inserted immediately into their starting lineup. Over his 13 games with the Orioles, Tolleson has maintained an OPS of .687 with four extra-base hits and six RBIs.
