The Tampa Bay Rays have placed designated hitter Luke Scott on the 15-day disabled list with back stiffness, reports Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Veteran slugger Hideki Matsui will be the Rays regular DH with Scott on the DL.

Scott told reporters that he sustained his injury last Friday while warming up for a pinch hitting appearance during the Rays contest against the Miami Marlins. The 33-year-old believes he will be ready to rejoin Tampa Bay when he’s eligible to come off the DL on June 24.

Scott has been an extremely streaky hitter throughout his career, and this season has been no different for the slugger. Over the month of April Scott maintained an OPS of .913 only to struggle to an OPS of .659 last month.

On the season Scott has hit at a clip of .220/.281/.424 with nine home runs, nine doubles and 35 RBIs.
