The Chicago Cubs have signed 15 of their draft picks, including supplemental first-round draft pick Paul Blackburn reports Carrie Muskat of MLB.com. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Major League Baseball's recommend slot signing bonus for Blackburn was $911,700.
Blackburn, the 56th overall draft pick, is out Heritage High School in Brentwood, California. The 18-year-old right-handed pitcher posted a 1.27 ERA across 77 1/3 innings of work, striking out 88. ESPN's Keith Law evaluates Blackburn as a "potential midrotation starter who could have three above-average pitches and already has solid command."
The Cubs have now signed two of their three first-round draft picks, with 6th overall pick Albert Almora being the one that remains unsigned. He's looking for more than the $3.25 million slot, according to various reports.
