The Atlanta Braves have placed right-handed starting pitcher Brandon Beachy on the 15-day disabled list with an elbow injury, reports David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. In a corresponding roster move, the Braves have recalled right-hander Todd Redmond from Triple-A.

Beachy left his Saturday start against the Baltimore Orioles in the fourth inning after experiencing a loss of velocity. Beachy was strong over his 3 2/3 innings of work, holding the Orioles hitless while recording five strikeouts, but it’s possible the 25-year-old has a torn tendon in his elbow that would require season-ending surgery.

Beachy is undergoing an MRI today to gauge the severity of his injury. Atlanta and their right-hander are hoping for the best.

Beachy has been phenomenal for the Braves this season. He entered the day leading major league starters in ERA (2.00) and is fourth in WHIP (0.96). Over his 13 starts spanning 81 innings pitched, Beachy has posted 7.6 SO/9 and 3.2 BB/9.
