Oakland Athletics Sign Matt Olson

The Oakland Athletics have agreed to terms with supplementary first-round draft pick Matt Olson, reports Jim Callis of Baseball America.

Taken 47th overall in this year's draft, the 6' 4" Olson reportedly signed for his allotted slot value at just under $1.08 million.

A first baseman and pitcher at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Georgia, Olson will move to first base full-time and focus on his offensive skill set as a member of the Athletics organization. Callis writes that Olson, who led his high school team to the national championship this year, has "the bat to produce for average and power" and also owns a powerful arm.

Olson had committed to Vanderbilt University but has chosen the pro route instead. With Olson's signing, only 14 of the 60 first and supplementary round draft picks remain unsigned, including No. 3 pick Mike Zunino and Stanford's Mark Appel.
