The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed right-hander David Pauley off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels, reports Jeremy Warnemuende of MLB.com. The Angels designated Pauley for the second time this season on Monday.
Pauley appeared in four games for the Angels in May and then another game this past Friday before the club designated him for assignment. Over his 9 1/3 innings pitched, the 29-year-old surrendered six runs (five earned) on 15 hits and three walks.
Pauley has spent a majority of the season pitching for the Angels Triple-A affiliate. Over his nine appearances, including five starts, the right-hander maintained an ERA and WHIP of 1.76 and 1.109 with 6.2 SO/9 and 2.1 BB/9.
The Blue Jays made the move for Pauley in order to bolster their bullpen depth. Though he struggled this season with the Angels, Pauley was a successful reliever last year as a member of the Seattle Mariners. Over his 39 appearances spanning 54 1/3 innings with the Mariners, he posted an ERA and WHIP of 2.15 and 0.994.
