Tigers Activate Alex Avila; Option Bryan Holaday

The Detroit Tigers have activated catcher Alex Avila from the 15-day disabled list, reports James Schmehl of Mlive.com. In a corresponding roster move, the Tigers have optioned catcher Bryan Holaday to Triple-A.

Avila had been on the Tigers DL since early June while dealing with a hamstring injury. The 25-year-old last appeared for the Tigers on June 5, when he was forced to exit the game after he aggravated his hamstring trying to throw a runner out at second base.

Before being activated, Avila completed a three-game minor league rehab assignment with the Tigers Triple-A affiliate. He went 3-7 with a walk and RBI over that span.

Prior to his injury, Avila posted a line of .250/.338/.429 with 14 extra-base hits and 20 RBIs over his 140 at-bats. Avila was named to the American League All-Star team last season and won a Silver Slugger award after finishing the season hitting at a clip of .295/.389/.506.
