Rizzo was pulled in the fourth inning of today’s Iowa Cubs’ game and soon after the team announced he will be promoted to Chicago.
Rizzo has destroyed Triple-A pitching for the second season in a row, hitting at a clip of .345/.408/.702 with 23 home runs, 18 doubles and 62 RBIs over his 255 at-bats this season.
While Tuesday will mark Rizzo’s debut with the Cubs, it will not be his first major league game. He appeared in 49 contests with the Padres last season, only mustering an OPS of .523 over his 128 at-bats.
To make room in the lineup for Rizzo, the Cubs are expected to shift regular first baseman Bryan LaHair to the outfield.
