Rockies Rumors: Colorado "Cooled" on Jeremy Guthrie Trade

The Colorado Rockies have cooled on the idea of trading right-hander Jeremy Guthrie, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. According to Rosenthal, the Rockies believe Guthrie could thrive in their new pitching system which includes a four-man rotation.

Rosenthal notes that the Rockies plan on using four starters, limiting each to 75 pitches, but wants to deploy as many as seven depending upon matchups. In this way, Colorado will be viewing their pitchers as interchangeable parts.

Colorado believes Guthrie will fit well into this system, as he is durable and bounces back quickly start-to-start. For this reason, the Rockies are in no hurry to trade the 33-year-old. Rosenthal reports the only way Colorado will trade Guthrie is if a team offers salary relief or talent in return.

Colorado acquired Guthrie from the Baltimore Orioles this off-season in exchange for reliever Matt Lindstrom and starter Jason Hammel. On the season, Guthrie has struggled to an ERA and WHIP of 6.34 and 1.730, but the veteran has logged 6 1/3 scoreless innings since being moved to the bullpen.
