The Cleveland Indians have claimed infielder/outfielder Vinny Rottino off of outright waivers from the New York Mets.

In a corresponding roster move, the Indians have designated right-hander Chris Schwinden for assignment.

Rottino, 32, signed as a free agent with the Mets in November, hitting at a clip of .182/.308/.394 over his 33 at-bats with the club this season. He owns a career line of .188/.282/.319 over parts of five seasons in the majors spanning 69 at-bats.

Rottino has spent most of the season with the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate where he’s posted a line of .307/.361/.479 with four home runs, 10 doubles and 25 RBIs over his 140 at-bats.

Schwinden also started the season with the Mets, but he was released after being shelled for 13 runs on 15 hits and three walks over his 8 2/3 innings of work. The spent a short time with the Toronto Blue Jays before he was picked up by the Indians. Over his 67 innings in Triple-A this season, Schwinden has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 5.87 and 1.435.
