The Baltimore Orioles have placed designated hitter/first baseman Nick Johnson on the 15-day disabled list with a wrist injury, reports Roch Kubatko of MASNsports.com.
To replace Johnson on their roster, the Orioles have recalled outfielder Xavier Avery from Triple-A.
Johnson was forced to leave last night’s 13-1 loss against the Los Angeles Angels in the fourth inning after sustaining the injury. The 33-year-old said he experienced pain after fouling off a changeup in the second inning.
Johnson has missed significant time due to injuries throughout his career, and he’s had multiple surgeries on the same wrist.
Over his 87 at-bats with the Orioles this season, Johnson has hit at a clip of .207/.324/.391 with four home runs, four doubles and 11 RBIs.
Avery made his major league debut with the Orioles earlier this season, playing in 15 games for the club. Over his 60 at-bats the 22-year-old posted a line of .217/.299/.317 with five extra base hits and nine runs scored.
