The Oakland Athletics are looking to sell this trade deadline and among those in play are Bartolo Colon, Brandon McCarthy, Grant Balfour, Brian Fuentes, Coco Crisp and Kurt Suzuki, according to Nick Carfado of the Boston Globe. Carfado adds that the A’s also wouldn’t be against dealing Josh Reddick.
Colon and McCarthy could pique the interest of contenders looking for starting pitching help this summer.
After his hot start to the 2012 season, Colon has cooled off a bit. Still, the 39-year-old has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 4.34 and 1.313 over his 12 starts and 74 2/3 innings pitched.
McCarthy’s continued his success with the A’s, posting an ERA and WHIP of 2.95 and 1.375 over his 10 starts. On the year, the 28-year-old right-hander has maintained 5.9 SO/9 and 2.5 BB/9.
Crisp and Suzuki have been lackluster performers this season on the offensive end of things. Each has posted OPS’s south of .510.
Balfour and Fuentes offer contenders a pair of available veteran relievers. Balfour has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 3.76 and 1.177 over his 27 appearances while Fuentes has managed marks of 4.12 and 1.119 over his 20 games.
Reddick has been the best of the players mentioned above this season and would likely be the most coveted of the bunch. Over his 200-plus at-bats this season, Reddick has hit at a clip of .271/.341/.547. Reddick is leading all A’s hitters in hits, home runs, RBIs and OPS.
