The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned right-hander Jesse Chavez to Triple-A Las Vegas. In a corresponding roster move, the Blue Jays have recalled infielder Yan Gomes.

Chavez appeared in one game for the Blue Jays this season, mopping up an ugly Kyle Drabek start on May 27 versus the Texas Rangers. After Drabek surrendered nine runs on eight hits and three walks over only three innings, Chavez came on to finish the game, logging five frames while allowing three runs on four hits.

Chavez will return to Triple-A Las Vegas where he has spent most of the season. Chavez has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 3.72 and 1.034 over his 10 starts for the Blue Jays Triple-A affiliate with 8.5 SO/9 and 1.7 BB/9.

Gomes was recalled earlier this season following the demotion of first baseman Adam Lind. Over his eight games with the Blue Jays, Gomes, 24, went 5-22 with two home runs and five RBIs. Gomes has maintained a .970 OPS in Triple-A this season with 26 extra-base hits and 30 RBIs over his 166 at-bats.
