Prior to being placed on the DL, Garcia was listed as day-to-day with arm issues.
Despite his recent discomfort, Garcia made his last scheduled start Tuesday against the Houston Astros. The 25-year-old only lasted two innings during which he surrendered six runs on five hits and two walks. On the season, Garcia has posted an ERA and WHIP of 4.48 and 1.46.
This will mark Salas’ second stint with the Cardinals this season. The 27-year-old posted a 6.32 ERA and 2.04 WHIP over 15 2/3 innings before St. Louis optioned him to Triple-A.
Salas was an integral part of the Cardinals bullpen last year when he maintained an ERA and WHIP of 2.28 and 0.947 over his 68 appearances spanning 75 innings.
