Padres Call Up Brad Boxberger

The San Diego Padres have promoted right-handed reliever Brad Boxberger from Triple-A Tucson, reports Daniel Berk of the Arizona Daily Star.

Boxberger, 24, has a rather high 4.70 ERA in 23 innings at Triple-A this season, but has struck out well over a batter an inning at 13.7 K/9. In 176 2/3 innings of professional baseball, Boxberger owns a 3.87 ERA, 12.1 K/9 and 4.3 BB/9.

Acquired in the blockbuster Mat Latos trade this offseason, the USC grad and former first round pick will make his Major League debut for the Padres after only a little more than two seasons in the minors.

The Padres have now promoted every piece of the Mat Latos trade to the big league squad at some point this season, though Yasmani Grandal was demoted back to Tucson last week.

No announcement of a corresponding move has been made as of yet, though right-hander Matt Palmer was out-righted to Tucson yesterday.
