Rangers Rumors: Nolan Ryan Not Expecting Blockbuster Trade

Texas Rangers president and CEO Nolan Ryan told Galloway and Co. on KESN-FM that he doesn’t anticipate his team making a blockbuster trade this summer.

I think Jon Daniels and his staff will be exploring any and every opportunity out there and seeing how we might better the ballclub for the second half. Do I anticipate a blockbuster deal? I don't anticipate that, but you never know what someone's going to propose to you through conversations.

Ryan did note that he expects the Rangers front office to explore "any opportunities they have."

In recent weeks, the Rangers have been linked to several of the market’s top available pitchers, including Milwaukee Brewers right-hander Zack Greinke and Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cole Hamels.

Buster Olney of ESPN spoke with sources that went as far as calling the Rangers the favorites to land Hamels if the Phillies make him available this summer. FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal has reported that the Rangers prefer Hamels over Greinke, though they continue to scout both pitchers.

Ryan ended his discussion on the chances of a summer blockbuster by saying that he’d be "rather surprised" if Texas makes a move "of the magnitude of the Cliff Lee deal."
