The Oakland Atletics have released left-handed reliever Brian Fuentes, reports John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Oakland designated Fuentes for assignment last week to make room for right-hander Bartolo Colon on their roster.
Prior to his release, the A’s were reportedly shopping Fuentes. At least one team, the St. Louis Cardinals, reportedly showed some degree of interest in the 36-year-old.
Oakland signed Fuentes prior to the 2011 season, but the veteran never seemed to settle in with the club. He posted respectable numbers in 2011, an ERA and WHIP of 3.70 and 1.234, but his production went south in a hurry in 2012.
Over his 26 appearances with the A’s this season, Fuentes allowed 19 runs on 30 hits with 10 walks over his 25 innings pitched.
Despite his poor performance with the A’s this season, Fuentes figures to find a home as a left-handed reliever with a career ERA and WHIP of 3.58 and 1.252.
