In a corresponding roster move, the Orioles have designated right-hander Brad Bergesen for assignment.
Hunter has struggled this season for the Orioles, as he’s been up and down between Triple-A and the bigs multiple times. Over his 15 appearances, including 13 starts, the 26-year-old has maintained an ERA and WHIP of 6.11 and 1.444 with 5.0 SO/9 and 1.8 BB/9.
Bergesen started 19 games as a rookie for the Orioles in 2009, posting an ERA and WHIP of 3.43 and 1.281. He hasn’t been the same since, as his career marks have ballooned to 4.68 and 1.495.
Baltimore purchased Bergesen’s contract yesterday, but he didn’t appear in their game against the Twins last night. Over his 22 appearances, including 10 starts, for the O’s Triple-A affiliate, he’s maintained an ERA and WHIP of 4.03 and 1.407 this season.
