Bergesen was designated for assignment by the Orioles earlier this week to make room for right-hander Tommy Hunter.
Bergesen started 19 games as a rookie for the Orioles in 2009, posting an ERA and WHIP of 3.43 and 1.281. Unfortunately for Baltimore and Bergesen, the right-hander hasn’t posted comparable numbers since.
Bergesen logged 170 innings over 30 appearances, including 28 starts, in 2010, but he only mustered an ERA and WHIP of 4.98 and 1.435 with 4.3 SO/9 and 2.7 BB/9. Last year the 26-year-old appeared mostly in relief for the O’s, posting an ERA and WHIP of 5.70 and 1.495 over his 101 innings of work.
Over his 22 appearances, including 10 starts, for the O’s Triple-A affiliate, he’s maintained an ERA and WHIP of 4.03 and 1.407 this season.
