The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim recalled middle infielder Jean Segura and optioned reliever David Carpenter to the minor leagues. This move comes after shortstop Erick Aybar left yesterday's game after hitting a foul ball off his right foot. It is unclear whether or not Aybar will go to the Disabled List, but Segura's recall suggests that Aybar may at least be sidelined for a few days.
David Carpenter optioned; Jean Segura called up. Buys them time to see if Aybar needs to go on DL. #Angels

Segura's name should be familiar to those who watched the All-Star Futures Game back on July 8. The product of the Dominican Republic comes to SoCal straight from Double-A Arkansas, where he posted a .294/.346/.404 slash line in 94 games. Entering the season, the 22-year-old ranked as the #55 prospect in baseball, according Baseball America.
According to Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus, Segura "projects to hit for a high average, and has enough strength in his swing to hit 15-18 home runs per year."
More details about Segura's immediate future should emerge soon, as the status of Erick Aybar will soon determine the Angels' plans.
