With the New York Yankees acquiring Ichiro Suzuki from the Seattle Mariners, they have designated outfielder Dewayne Wise for assignment to make room on the roster, reports Marc Carig of the The Star-Ledger.
Wise has been DFA'd.

Wise, 34, signed a minor league deal with an invite to spring training in the off-season. He played well in limited time, hitting .262/.286/.492 in 63 plate appearances with the Yankees while clubbing 3 home runs and swiping 7 bags as well. Wise should be able to find another job because he can still run and man the outfield. But he'll likely clear waivers first.
Primarily used as a late-inning defensive replacement or a pinch-runner, the Yankees needed to clear a roster spot for Ichiro who can do the same things. The Yankees also have outfielders Raul Ibanez and Andruw Jones on the bench, and don't need to be carrying six outfielders with them.
