Sources suggest there is a "strong probability" that the San Diego Padres trade third baseman Chase Headley, according to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, as 10 teams, including the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians and Pittsburgh Pirates, have checked in on the 28-year-old:
The market is said to be huge for Padres third baseman Chase Headley, and sources suggest the strong probablity is that he will be dealt.
Following Alex Rodriguez’s injury and trip to the disabled list, there was speculation that the New York Yankees could pursue Headley. Heyman reports that the Yankees are "unlikely to make a big push" for the third baseman, because they don’t want to surrender the prospects it would require.
Heyman adds that the Padres are said to be "a bit surprised at the demand for Headley." While he is under team control through the 2014 season, Heyman says San Diego would be willing to trade Headley in part due to the presence of top third base prospect Jedd Gyorko, who they "believe is ready to step in."
