UPDATE 11:48 PM EST: The Brewers are working on a trade that could be done in a day or two, Brewers GM Doug Melvin tells Tom Hadricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Original Story: The Milwaukee Brewers have activated catcher Jonathan Lucroy from the 15-day disabled list, the team has announced.

To make room on their roster for Lucroy, the Brewers have designated catcher George Kottaras for assignment.

Lucroy hit the DL at the end of May with a hand injury which required surgery. Prior to sustaining his injury, the 26-year-old had hit at a clip of .345/.387/.583 with 19 extra-base hits in 139 at-bats. He went 7-16 with four RBIs over five minor league rehab games before rejoining the Brewers.

Kottaras maintained a line of .209/.409/.360 with 29 walks over 86 at-bats. The 29-year-old owns a career OPS of .728.

With the Brewers pending fire-sale, there were rumblings that the club could look to trade Kottaras given the strong performance by backup catcher Martin Maldonado.

Maldonado, 25, has hit at a clip of .277/.323/.405 with nine extra-base hits and 18 RBIs over 148 at-bats.
