In a corresponding roster move, the Dodgers have recalled right-hander Shawn Tolleson from Triple-A.
On the year, Kennedy had only maintained a line of .250/.331/.340 for the Dodgers, but the 36-year-old had been hot this month. Over 38 July at-bats, he posted an OPS of .898 with five extra-base hits, three walks and six RBIs.
Kennedy had been used in a platoon at third base with Juan Uribe recently. The veteran has also manned first and second base as well as left field this season.
Tolleson, 24, has appeared in 12 games for the Dodgers this season. Over 11 2/3 innings pitched, the right-hander has posted an ERA and WHIP of 5.40 and 1.457 with 8.5 SO/9 and 4.6 BB/9.
