The San Francisco Giants have acquired middle infielder Marco Scutaro and cash considerations from the Colorado Rockies in exchange for infielder Charlie Culberson, the Rockies have announced. Here we have one of the rare trades involving two division rivals.

Just yesterday we heard Marco Scutaro was the most likely member of the Rockies to be dealt because of his ability to play either shortstop or second base. Also because, as Troy Renck of The Denver Post notes, the 36-year-old is owed just $2.2 million of his $6 million contract for the year.

A cheap option for a player that can play defense and hit a little bit, albeit not for much power. He will become a free-agent at season's end. Scutaro has hit .271/.324/.359 in 411 plate appearances on the season.
