While the Philadelphia Phillies are expected to be one of the more active sellers at this year’s trade deadline, Ken Rosenthal and Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports are reporting the club is exploring deals that would add players such as San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley and Cleveland Indians outfielder Shin-Soo Choo:
But club officials also are exploring deals that will add to the Phillies’ core – hence, the team’s interest in San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley and Cleveland Indians right fielder Shin-Soo Choo, according to major-league sources.
This morning it was reported that the Phillies could trade players such as Shane Victorino, Joe Blanton, Juan Pierre and Ty Wigginton and even Hunter Pence and Cliff Lee if there are overwhelmed.
Rosenthal and Morosi believe the Phillies could still pursue this path while also looking to add players such as Headley and Choo to their core.
While the Phillies have mostly gutted their farm system over recent years to acquire players such as Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt and Hunter Pence, Rosenthal and Morosi believe the Phillies could flip prospects acquired in another deadline deal to Cleveland or San Diego in exchange for Choo or Headley.
